This course applies to a wide range of settings where first aid emergencies may occur, including workplaces, educational facilities, homes, and community environments. It provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform CPR and deliver an effective First Aid response for a range of medical conditions and traumatic injuries.
The course also includes the skills and knowledge required to perform a rescue from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus within an electrical industry environment. This does not include work involving overhead powerlines or underground cables.
Participants will also learn the organisational and workplace requirements for the inspection and use of live LV panel rescue equipment, including the application of relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, mobility and mutual aid obligations relevant to electricity supply industry (ESI) workers and electrical industry personnel.
This course includes the organisational workplace requirements for the inspection and use of live low voltage (LV) panel rescue equipment and how these requirements apply to electricity supply industry (ESI) workers and electrical industry workers to meet work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), mobility and mutual aid obligations.
The unit also describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in accordance with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This course applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a workplace, electrical industry, or community setting.
There are no prerequisites. All participants will need the ability to meet the physical demands of providing first aid. Participants will also need oral communication skills to make an accurate verbal report to emergency services as well as the written communication skills needed for completion of a First Aid Incident Report.
Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated on the floor.
