Course Description
This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to administer restricted analgesics to provide pain management as part of a medically supervised first responder organisation. It includes identifying the need for analgesia; accessing, preparing and administering restricted pain relief such as analgesics according to medically endorsed protocols; performing casualty handovers and completing analgesic use requirements.

Application & Relevance
This course applies to personnel from emergency services, volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service.
Entry Requirements
Pre-requisite unit: HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
Participants will need the ability to meet the considerable physical demands of providing basic emergency life support. Participants will also need oral communication skills to make an accurate verbal report to emergency services and workplace supervisor. Prior to the start of face-to-face practical training, there may be a short knowledge quiz to check language, literacy and numeracy skills, as required.
Assessment Methods
Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge.

Workshop Attendance
There is a compulsory face-to-face workshop component of this course. Students must attend a face-to-face assessment to be assessed in practical aspects of the course curriculum.
