Course Description

This course applies to a wide range of settings where first aid emergencies may occur. It is relevant for workplaces, education, around the home or other social or community environments. It covers the skills and knowledge required to provide quality CPR and an effective First Aid response for a range of medical conditions and trauma.

Application & Relevance

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a workplace or community setting.

Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisites.  All participants will need the ability to meet the physical demands of providing first aid. Participants will also need oral communication skills to make an accurate verbal report to emergency services as well as the written communication skills needed for completion of a First Aid Incident Report.

Assessment Methods

Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated on the floor.

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support and management of casualties until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Certification

Learner Support

This course requires Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to interpret work instructions, complete online theory and record work outcomes. If you believe you do not possess the requisite LLN requirements for this course please refer to the Learner Support Services Policy or discuss your needs with our friendly team.

National Recognition

On successfully completing the training and assessment you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the relevant units of competency. These units of competence are nationally recognised and provide individuals with a valuable outcome that is recognised throughout Australia.

Workshop Attendance

There is a compulsory face-to-face workshop component of this course. Students must attend a face-to-face assessment to be assessed in practical aspects of the course curriculum.

There is no requirement for work placement in this course
